Storm Emergency in
Ladakh
Also the Ladakh, and in particular the capital Leh, have been
severely affected by the flooding which have caused death and
destruction in much of Asia.
Mara Casella is well and is committed to the side of the population
that slowly is trying to get back to normal.
The school Munsel was damaged, but not so serious, and will reopen
soon to welcome children and young people who live near. The other
students are still isolated: many roads and bridges have been swept
away by the fury of the waters. It would seem, however, that all are
well, though Mara has not yet managed to contact them personally.
The project therefore continues: underway of reconstruction of the
roof of the school and Mara will continue to help the people of Leh.
Gamyul Phanday Tsogspa is a Swiss association (Gam
means remote, Yul village, Phanday well-being and Tsogspa society) dedicated to
handicapped children of Ladakh while (also) supporting remote
villages of that region of India, in the Himalayas.
Our association has two goals:
-
bring a concrete help to handicapped children. A teacher specialized in teaching children with special needs works with physically and mentally deficient pupils aged from 4 to 16. She visits the families and as well as a small institution dedicated to these children.
-
support locals living in settlements situated above 4000m (13000 ft) out of road range, in the fields of social life, education and economy. However this is to remain a temporary help as to not create a dependence.
Currently Gamyul Phanday Tsogspa intends to increase mainly its area
dedicated to physically and/or mentally challenged children.
